As far as I can see, the machines have taken over and being one of the remaining humans gets you in big trouble.īut nothing gets explained in detail and generally there’s very little text. But barely anyone seems to know much about their own history or that of the other occupants. Kyrii encounters several different factions (a lot of them not human) and subsequently a lot of trouble on the way up.
Tsutomu Nihei is using an interesting approach, where he’s telling the story mainly through the artwork. He’s trying to make his way up, in search of the Net Terminal Gene, a genetic mutation that allows humans to connect to some sort of network.
Kyrii is one of seemingly very few remaining humans that live in a city that’s grown vertically, to an enormous extend.
